A rich and gooey skillet brownie with chunks of semi-sweet chocolate, perfect for sharing or indulging solo.

Ingredients

Dairy and Oils

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 ounces bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate, coarsely chopped

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened natural or Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (spooned & leveled)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Chocolate Chips

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided
  • 2 tablespoons semi-sweet chocolate chips, divided

Optional for serving

  • ice cream, salted caramel sauce, and/or hot fudge sauce (for serving)

Instructions 

  • In a saucepan, melt butter, oil, chocolate, and sugar over medium heat until smooth, then cool slightly.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (177°C) and grease a 10-inch cast iron skillet.
  • Whisk eggs and vanilla into the cooled chocolate mixture, then fold in cocoa powder, flour, salt, and 1 cup chocolate chips.
  • Pour batter into the skillet, sprinkle remaining chocolate chips on top, and bake for 30–36 minutes.
  • Cool for 5 minutes before serving with optional toppings.

Notes

For extra gooeyness, underbake slightly and serve warm.
