Ingredients

Meat

  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey (for a lighter option)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
  • 0.5 cup water (to mix with taco seasoning)
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • 8 large flour or corn tortillas
  • optional Shredded lettuce
  • optional Diced tomatoes
  • optional Shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese
  • optional Sliced avocado or guacamole
  • optional Sour cream or Greek yogurt
  • optional Salsa or hot sauce
  • optional Fresh cilantro (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp chili powder (for homemade taco seasoning)
  • 1 tsp cumin (for homemade taco seasoning)
  • 1 tsp paprika (for homemade taco seasoning)
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder (for homemade taco seasoning)
  • 0.5 tsp onion powder (for homemade taco seasoning)
  • 0.25 tsp cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • 0.5 tsp salt (for homemade taco seasoning)
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper (for homemade taco seasoning)

Instructions 

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, cook until browned, about 6-8 minutes.
  • Stir in chopped onion and garlic, cook for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  • Sprinkle taco seasoning over beef, add water, stir, and simmer for 3-5 minutes.
  • Warm tortillas in a dry skillet for 30 seconds per side or in oven at 350°F (175°C) for 5-10 minutes.

Notes

For softer tortillas, microwave wrapped in a damp paper towel for 20-30 seconds.
