These soft, fluffy dinner rolls are perfect for any meal, made from scratch with active dry yeast and a buttery finish.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 cup warm milk (105-115°F)
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 to 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter, for brushing

Instructions 

  • Combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 teaspoon sugar; let stand 5-10 min until foamy.
  • Add remaining sugar, egg, and melted butter; whisk to combine.
  • Stir in salt and gradually add flour, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Knead dough 6-8 min until smooth; let rise in oiled bowl 60-90 min until doubled.
  • Punch down dough, divide into 12 balls, arrange in greased pan, and let rise 30-45 min until puffy.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C); bake rolls 15-20 min until golden. Brush with melted butter and serve warm.

Notes

For softer rolls, let them rise a bit longer before baking.
