Ingredients

Meat

  • 3 to 4 pounds chuck roast, trimmed of excess fat (leave some marbling for flavor)
  • 1/4 cup honey (raw or local preferred)
  • 1/2 cup bourbon (mid-range like Maker’s Mark or Buffalo Trace)
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt, adjust to taste
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)

Buns

  • 8 to 10 buns sandwich buns or brioche buns
  • Butter for toasting buns (optional) butter (for toasting buns)

Instructions 

  • Place beef in slow cooker, pour sauce over, and cook on low for 8-9 hours until tender.
  • Shred beef in the crockpot, cook uncovered on high for 15-20 minutes if sauce needs reducing.
  • Toast buns with butter if desired. Assemble sandwiches with pulled beef and toppings.

Notes

For extra flavor, add coleslaw or pickles to the sandwiches.
