A warm and comforting skillet dessert combining sweet apples, crunchy pecans, and a maple-spiced topping, perfect for cozy evenings.

Ingredients

  • 3 large gala apples (peeled, cored, and chopped)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour + 2 Tbsp (total flour including 2 Tbsp extra)
  • 1/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 6 Tbsp cold unsalted butter (chopped into small chunks)
  • 3/4 cup low fat buttermilk

Instructions 

  • Peel, core, and chop apples. Mix with cinnamon, cloves, brown sugar, maple syrup, and pecans.
  • Combine flour, sugar, cinnamon, baking powder, and baking soda. Cut in butter until coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in buttermilk just until combined. Spread apple mixture in a greased skillet.
  • Spoon dough over apples evenly. Bake at 425°F for 10 minutes, then at 350°F for 23-26 minutes.
  • Serve warm with ice cream. Enjoy!

Notes

For a crunchier topping, sprinkle some extra pecans on top before baking.
