This homemade honey whole wheat bread is soft, flavorful, and perfect for sandwiches. Easy to make with wholesome ingredients.

Ingredients

Wet ingredients

  • 1 cup water (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup milk of your choice (room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin oil (sub any neutral vegetable oil)
  • teaspoons active dry yeast

Dry ingredients

  • 2 1/3 cups unbleached bread or all-purpose flour
  • cups whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons kosher or fine sea salt

Additional

  • Butter or non-stick spray for coating the pan

Instructions 

  • Mix honey, milk, oil, and water; add yeast and let sit 10-15 min.
  • Combine flours and salt; let sit 10 min.
  • Add yeast mixture to dry ingredients; let rise until doubled (~1 hr). Refrigerate if not baking immediately.
  • Shape dough into a loaf, place in buttered pan, and let rise 1 hr until 1/2 inch above pan edges.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C); bake 40-45 min until golden and hollow sounding. Cool 1 hr before slicing.
