This flavorful steak sandwich combines seasoned grilled steak with sautéed vegetables and melty cheese for a satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Meat

  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin steak

Oil

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided

Spices & Sauces

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)

Vegetables

  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Bread & Cheese

  • 4 sandwich rolls or hoagie buns sandwich rolls or hoagie buns
  • 4 slices provolone or cheddar cheese

Condiments & Greens

  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • to taste Fresh arugula or lettuce for garnish

Instructions 

  • Mix garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, chili flakes, and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Rub steak with 1 tbsp olive oil and season with the spice mixture. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  • Sauté onions and peppers in 1 tbsp olive oil until caramelized, then add garlic for 1-2 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  • Cook steak 3-4 minutes per side for medium-rare, then rest for 5 minutes and slice thinly against the grain.
  • Mix mayonnaise and Dijon, spread on rolls, layer steak, vegetables, cheese, and greens. Optional: melt cheese under broiler.

Notes

For extra flavor, toast the buns before assembling.
