Deliciously crispy and savory onion fritters perfect for a snack or appetizer, made with gluten-free ingredients and served with a tangy sauce.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup gluten-free all-purpose/plain flour (See Note 1)
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp polenta - finely ground or cornmeal (See Note 2)
  • 2 tsp gluten-free baking powder
  • 2 tsp coarse cooking sea salt (or to taste)
  • 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper (or to taste)

Wet Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup soy milk (See Note 3)

Main Vegetables

  • 2 1/2 cups brown/yellow onions (finely chopped, approximately 3 medium onions)
  • 2 green/spring onions

Frying Oil

  • 1/4 cup oil (for frying, approximately; use extra virgin or grapeseed oil)

Serving Sauce

  • Sweet Chilli Sauce or another sauce of your choice (to serve)

Instructions 

  • Finely chop the onions and set aside.
  • Mix dry ingredients in a bowl, then add milk to form a thick batter.
  • Stir in chopped onions, then heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Drop batter tablespoons into hot oil, flatten, and cook 2-3 minutes per side until golden and crispy.
  • Drain on paper towels, keep warm, and serve with sauce.

Notes

Ensure oil is hot before frying to achieve crispy fritters.
