A rustic and delicious apple galette featuring a flaky crust, spiced apples, and a salted maple glaze for a perfect fall dessert.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 12 tablespoons unsalted butter (very cold, cut into 1/2-inch pieces)
  • 1/4 cup very cold water

Filling

  • 3 apples apples (any variety, sliced 1/8-inch thick)
  • 1/3 cup light brown soft sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt

Glaze

  • 1/3 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
  • 1 tablespoon icing sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
  • 1 egg beaten egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 tablespoons demerara sugar

Instructions 

  • Prepare the dough by pulsing flour, salt, and sugar in a food processor. Add butter and process until pea-sized. Add water and process until crumbly. Knead into a disc and chill.
  • Roll out the dough on parchment into a 14-inch circle. Arrange apple slices on the dough, fold edges over, and brush with egg and milk. Sprinkle demerara sugar and chill.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 50-60 minutes until golden. Make the salted maple glaze by mixing syrup, butter, icing sugar, and salt. Cool and serve with glaze.

Notes

Chill the dough well for a flaky crust and serve warm or at room temperature.
