A rustic and delicious apple galette with flaky pastry and warm spices, perfect for a cozy dessert.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup ice water

Filling

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3-4 medium apples (about 1 1/2 pounds) (peeled, cored, sliced)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 egg beaten

Optional toppings

  • coarse sugar coarse sugar (for sprinkling)
  • 1 tablespoon apricot jam (optional, for glazing)

Instructions 

  • Pulse flour, sugar, and salt; add butter and pulse until coarse. Add water gradually until dough forms. Chill for 1 hour.
  • Mix brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss apple slices with lemon juice and coat with spice mixture.
  • Roll out dough into a 12-inch circle, place on baking sheet. Arrange apples in center, fold edges over, brush with egg, sprinkle sugar if desired.
  • Refrigerate 20-30 minutes, preheat oven to 400°F. Bake for 40-45 minutes until golden. Cool slightly.
  • Warm apricot jam, brush over galette, serve warm.

Notes

Chill the dough thoroughly for best results and use ripe apples for optimal flavor.
